Armstrong Recycling Center
The Recycling Center, located on Route 85 east of Kittanning at the Armsdale Complex, opened in early spring 1995 as a joint effort between the County of Armstrong and the Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County. Since the Center opened, over 13,700 tons of materials have been collected from individuals and businesses with the number continuing to grow daily. In addition to the Armstrong Recycling Center, interested individuals can also take their materials to one of the sites included in the Recycling Trailer Program or Circuit Rider Program.

Recycling Trailer Program
To provide convenience and flexibility to individuals interested in recycling, the Armstrong Recycling Center has placed recycling trailers at eleven locations throughout the county. These trailers are available for use 24-hours per day seven days per week.
Improper Use of Recycling Trailers
It is never appropriate to leave garbage in or around the recycling trailers. Recyclables outside the recycling trailer leave the area unsightly and put the site in danger of having to be removed. If the recycling trailer is full, please take your materials home and contact the Armstrong Recycling Center to have the site serviced.

Circuit Rider Program
The Circuit Rider Program is a manned drop off location offered on a rotating basis throughout the County. This program is offered for those unable to get to the Center during normal hours of operation. Due to inclement weather, the circuit rider program is not in operation during January and February. However, the permanent recycling trailer collection sites as well as the Center are available year round. For a list of Circuit Rider Sites, please click on the link below.

Hard to Recycle Materials
Do you have items that are hard to recycle? Each year, the County partners with different organizations to host special collection events in order to provide residents with an opportunity to dispose of hard to recycle items in an environmentally friendly manner.
2014 "Hard to Recycle" Days
In an effort to provide the public with an opportunity to recycle items such as tires, electronics and household appliances, Armstrong County has teamed up with the Progressive Workshop to hold two "Hard to Recycle" events each year. 2014 events will be held on May 17th and September 13th. The event held May 17th was a huge success with over 50 tons of hard to recycle materials being collected. For more information about the May 17th event click here.
Household Hazardous Waste Collections
In order to help residents properly dispose of items such as paints, thinners and household chemicals, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events are held throughout Western Pennsylvania each year.
